Mostar’s Literary Heritage - In the Mostar Museum of Herzegovina

The central place in the space of Mostar cultural identity, alongside architectural-builders heritage, is certainly a vast literary heritage of anonymous and famous Mostar writers. The literary heritage is composed of texts of the medieval, Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian and Yugoslav period. It is the affair of archives, libraries, museums and specialized institutes. In the literature department of Herzegovina Museum, located in the memorial house of Svetozar Ćorović, after expert treatment, a small part of Mostar literary heritage has been presented: and it is the legacies of three writers - Svetozar Ćorović, Aleksa Šantić and Hamza Humo. Since the Museum has become homeless having been avicted from the Madrasah building it had been assigned to by the People’s Council of Mostar, the town’s authorities have been advised to repair the former Girl’s school for future Museum purposes. It is necessary to restore the primary idea to the literature department of the Ćorović’s house, the memory of the writers lived there – Ćorović and Šantić, to restore its original interior and introduce modern forms of museum recognition of literary heritage.

Using the same method, as suggested by the author of the text, it is necessary to treat preparations of newly found or bought materials, and prepare it for Herzegovina Museum. Hence, long-term wise, the literary heritage could use the space of its original purpose – to convey into the future ideas and layers of development of cultural elements, who were the foundations of urban identity.
