The Meaning and Function of the Herzegovinian Noun Dialectic "Outside"

Abstract

This paper explains the functioning of Herzegovinian dialecticism izvan - the noun that refers to an outer space, as in opposed to a closed one - for which, in standard language, the adverbs out/vani and outside/napolju are used. The paper wishes to bring attention to this lexeme’s good grammatical and communicational functioning, and to the fact that it has no proper place in any standard language.
