Abstract

It is abundantly clear that the improvement of higher education represents strategic imperative of the present time. Recent tendencies in the development of engineering education are summarized in five points. In this context it is clear that the knowledge of languages, history, humanities, social science, fine and performing arts etc. is an important part of the education of an engineer because his performance and achievements are interrelated with the world around him. This means that, together with scientific and technological knowledge, a modem professional engineer should have criteria to solve problems and the capacity to organize teamwork. Only with general cultural background is it possible to develop a creative, human, social and economic spirit and a moral force which will ensure the accomplishment of the goals discussed above.
