Abstract
Aim of this research was to determine the differences in language abilities of first year students in regular elementary schools depending on parents educational level. A sample of respondents consisted of 190 first year students in elementary schools, ages between 72 and 89 months. The research was conducted in elementary schools in the area of municipality Maglaj in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Based on results of this research we can conclude that the parents educational level has no impact on the development of the language abilities of first year students in regular elementary schools. Althought it has no direct influence, family environment and socioeconomic status of parents, including their level of education, presents a wealth source of child’s experiences and can greatly improve the development of oral and writtenstudents language.
